HYPERHIDROSIS / EXCESSIVE SWEATING TREATMENTS
For effective and noticeable results, Noviskin uses Botulinum Toxin injections and the miraDry system for Excessive Sweating Treatments.
Botox® is a pure preparation of a protein, Botulinum Toxin Type A, which is obtained from Bacteria Clostridium Botulinum grown under modern methods of cultivation. When small amounts of Botox® are injected into the skin, it blocks the actions of the nerves that supply the eccrine glands. This prevents the glands from producing sweat.
However, new nerve endings grow within 12 weeks, which means that the effects of the treatment will last a few months. If no new hyperhidrosis treatments are done, the excessive sweating will slowly start again as it was before treatment.

WHAT IS HYPERHIDROSIS?
Hyperhidrosis means excessive sweating. Sweating is one of the most important ways the body gives off heat. However, people with hyperhidrosis produce sweating amounts far greater than needed to control their temperature. It has been estimated that up to 1% of the population has some form of hyperhidrosis. It usually starts during the teens and twenties.

People with hyperhidrosis can produce a large volume of sweat. This means that the hands, feet, chest or armpits (depending on which part of the body is affected) may be constantly damp. This may make normal everyday activities more difficult to carry out and it can cause embarrassment at work or in social circumstances. It is not true that hyperhidrosis causes body odour: the smell that some people think is due to excessive sweating is in fact caused by bacteria if the sweat remains there for a long time.
However, with the help of modern technology, Professional Dermatology Centers like Noviskin, are able to provide patients with Excessive Sweating Treatments to reduce the amount of sweating.
TYPES OF HYPERHIDROSIS
Focal hyperhidrosis is the more common type involving excessive sweating of the feet, palms and in 30 – 40% of cases, the armpits. The face may also be affected but in less than 10% of cases. Even less, is gustatory hyperhidrosis which is when spicy or hot food, triggers excessive sweating on the face and scalp. Noviskin uses Botulinum Toxin filler in our Excessive Sweating Treatments of focal axillary hyperhidrosis, as this provides the most effective results.
Generalised hyperhidrosis affects the whole body. It is much less common and is usually caused by another illness such as an infection, diabetes or when the thyroid gland is overactive. This type of hyperhidrosis usually stops after successful excessive sweating treatments.
EXCESSIVE SWEATING TREATMENT PROCEDURE
Please find below a basic overview of the treatment protocol for our Excessive Sweating Treatments using ® Botox.
- The armpit area is disinfected.
- Alcohol-based iodine is then wiped over the area concerned.
- Corn starch powder is scattered onto the iodine-based area.
- Purple droplets will appear when the sweat interacts with the corn starch and iodine.
- A dotted area is demarcated and will be the area injected with Botox®.
Using a very fine needle, a NoviSkin physician will inject a small amount (0.1ml – 0.2 ml) solution of Botox® into numerous areas in the armpit area, 1cm apart and evenly distributed.

CAUSES OF HYPERHIDROSIS
Read More
Hyperhidrosis is caused by the overactivity of one type of sweat gland, the eccrine gland. These glands are found virtually all over the body surface but they are concentrated on the palms of the hands, the soles of the feet and the armpits. A lot of factors can trigger normal sweating, and this is also true for hyperhidrosis – it is just the amount of sweating that varies:
- Genetic predisposition
- Exercise
- Heat or cold
- Alcohol
- Coffee and tea
- Smoking
- Hot and spicy food
- Stress, anxiety and strong emotions
- Certain times of the day
